Canada visa application tracking made simple for Pakistani applicants. Learn how to do a Canada visa check online through IRCC and VFS Global, understand what each status means, and know exactly what to do next.
Use the system that matches how you applied. IRCC shows your application progress and decision, while VFS Global shows the physical location of your passport.
IRCC Tracker
Tells you the decision and progress on your visa.
VFS Global
Tells you where your passport currently is.
GCMS Notes
Officer notes that explain unusual delays.
The most common confusion for Pakistani applicants is which system to check. Here is the simple rule.
| If you… | Use this tracker | What it tells you |
|---|---|---|
| Applied online via the IRCC portal or secure account | IRCC (account or status tracker) | Application stages and final decision |
| Submitted your passport at a VFS centre in Pakistan | VFS Global (tracking ID) | Where your passport currently is |
| Used a paper application | IRCC (link it to an online account) | Status once linked and processed |
| Want detailed reasons or officer notes | GCMS notes request | Internal processing notes on your file |
Rule of thumb: IRCC answers “What is happening with my decision?” and VFS answers “Where is my passport right now?” You will often use both.
Sign in with the GCKey or Sign-In Partner credentials you used to apply, open “View my submitted applications,” and read your status and any messages from IRCC.
Open the VFS Global Pakistan page for Canada, choose “Track your application,” and enter the tracking ID from your VAC acknowledgement receipt, date of birth and captcha.
A separate online tool with a clearer stage-by-stage timeline. Sign in with your UCI and application number to see exactly which stage your file has reached.
For unexplained delays, request your GCMS notes via the IRCC web form using your name, date of birth, UCI, application number and category. Slower, but reveals the reason.
Always check at the source: the official IRCC status page and the VFS Global Pakistan – Canada portal.
| Status | What it means |
|---|---|
| Application received | IRCC has your application and issued your AOR. The clock has started. |
| Biometrics | You need to give, or have given, fingerprints and a photo at a VAC. |
| In progress / Background check | Your file is being assessed, including security and background checks. |
| Under review | An officer is actively examining your application. This is normal — not negative. |
| Decision made | Processing is complete. A result has been reached and you will be notified next. |
| Passport ready / dispatched | Your passport is returning to the VAC for collection or delivery. |
There is no fixed number — timelines depend on volume, season, document quality and extra checks. Use IRCC’s official processing-time tool for a current estimate, give your biometrics promptly, and expect summer and December to be slower. See our guides on the study permit processing time and tourist visa validity after approval.
Identify your tracker — IRCC if you applied online, VFS if you used a centre.
Sign in to IRCC, or enter your VFS tracking ID and date of birth.
Open your submitted application or profile.
Read your current status and any messages from IRCC.
Act on the update — biometrics, documents, or passport collection.
If you haven’t received your AOR yet, an empty status is expected. Wait for the acknowledgement first.
Both are on your AOR letter or email and any IRCC correspondence.
It is on your VAC acknowledgement receipt. If lost, contact the VFS centre where you applied.
Use GCKey recovery to reset access — don’t create a second account, which causes confusion.
Usually too early, not yet linked, or a detail entered wrong. Re-check your numbers and retry later.
