A Sri Lanka trip from Pakistan has quietly become one of the easiest international holidays a Pakistani family can plan. The tourist ETA is now free for Pakistani passports, SriLankan Airlines flies nonstop from Karachi and Lahore in under four hours, and the island packs tea hills, an ancient rock fortress, colonial forts and beaches into a country you can cross by road in a day. What decides your budget is practical: which flight to book, what a Sri Lanka tour package or DIY trip really costs in rupees, and how to fit Colombo, Sigiriya, Kandy, Ella and Galle into one week.
This guide answers those questions for Pakistani couples and families. For the full ETA application walk-through, read our detailed Sri Lanka visit visa from Pakistan guide; here we summarise entry rules in one short section and spend the rest of the page on flights, cost and itinerary. Entry rules were re-checked on the official Sri Lanka ETA portal and the Department of Immigration and Emigration website on 20 October 2026. Prices are approximate October 2026 market ranges, not fixed fees, and they move with the season, the rupee and how early you book. Sri Lankan immigration decides every ETA and every entry; approval is never assured.

Why a Sri Lanka Trip from Pakistan Is So Easy Right Now

Three things put Sri Lanka near the top of the list for Pakistani travellers who want a short, low-stress holiday abroad.
The visa cost disappeared. Since 25 May 2026, Pakistani nationals get the tourist ETA free of charge for 30 days with double entry. You still apply online and need approval, but there is no embassy visit and no visa fee.
The flight is short and direct. A nonstop from Karachi or Lahore lands in Colombo in roughly three and a half to four hours, about the same as flying to Dubai. A six or seven-night trip loses no days to connections.
Pakistanis pay SAARC prices at major sites. As a SAARC country, Pakistan qualifies for the discounted foreign ticket at places run by Sri Lanka’s Central Cultural Fund, including Sigiriya, where a Pakistani adult pays about US$20 instead of US$35. The Temple of the Tooth in Kandy also has a lower SAARC ticket (LKR 2,500 against LKR 3,000).
Who a Sri Lanka trip suits best
Families who want variety in one week (history, cool tea country and beaches), couples on a honeymoon budget that will not stretch to an overwater villa, and first-time travellers who want English-speaking drivers and hotels. If a pure beach-and-lagoon holiday is the goal, compare our Maldives trip from Pakistan guide. The two pair well: Colombo is a common connecting point for Male, and the double-entry ETA lets you leave Sri Lanka and come back within the same 30 days.
Sri Lanka Visa for Pakistanis in Brief: The Free 30-Day ETA

Pakistani passport holders need an approved ETA before landing. The process is online and, for tourists, free. This is the short version for trip planning. Our step-by-step Sri Lanka ETA guide for Pakistanis covers every field, mistake and FAQ in detail.
- Apply only on the official portal. Use eta.gov.lk. Look-alike sites charge “service fees” for an ETA that is free for Pakistanis under the current scheme.
- Choose the tourist ETA. The official notice says nationals of the 40 listed countries, Pakistan included, receive the tourist ETA free for 30 days, with a second entry allowed inside that 30-day window.
- No uploads needed. The portal says no passport copy, documents or photos are required; type your passport details exactly as printed.
- Wait for the approval notice. No official processing time is published, so apply as soon as your dates are firm and before you pay for non-refundable extras. If the system issues a referral notice instead, the portal directs you to the nearest Sri Lanka mission.
- Carry proof. Keep the approval notice, return ticket and hotel bookings handy; officers can ask how you will fund the stay.
- Mind the dates. The portal says an ETA holder must enter within three months of issue. Staying beyond 30 days needs a paid extension from the Department of Immigration and Emigration.
Our advice: travel on a passport with at least six months of validity left, keep names identical across ticket, hotel and ETA, and speak to us first if your file has a previous refusal or a name mismatch. Easy Visa helps you prepare the application; Sri Lankan immigration alone decides it.

Pakistan to Sri Lanka Flights: Karachi, Lahore and Islamabad

Searches for “Pakistan to Sri Lanka ticket price” usually come down to one decision: nonstop from Karachi or Lahore, or a connection from Islamabad. Times and fares below were seen on 20 October 2026; treat them as snapshots and check live prices before paying.
Karachi to Colombo flight
SriLankan Airlines is the only carrier flying Karachi to Colombo nonstop, with about four flights a week in October 2026: a morning departure arriving before lunch and an evening departure landing at night, each around three and a half hours. Return economy fares on the airline’s Pakistan site started from roughly Rs 146,000 to Rs 160,000 for December and January dates, and about Rs 175,000 for late-October travel. One-stop flydubai options via Dubai showed one-way fares from about Rs 116,000, with a much longer journey.
Lahore to Colombo flight
Lahore has its own SriLankan nonstop, roughly four to five times a week: an early-morning wide-body flight on Mondays and Thursdays and an evening flight on Tuesdays and Sundays, scheduled at just under four hours. The airline’s Lahore fare calendar showed returns from about Rs 175,000 on many dates, rising past Rs 250,000 on busy ones. When you book, your ticket will show UL flight numbers; SriLankan Airlines’ UL and ALK codes on IATA.co help you match those codes and the Colombo hub on a fare screen, which matters when a travel agent quotes a codeshare under a different airline’s name.
From Islamabad and Peshawar
There is no nonstop from Islamabad to Colombo. You either take a domestic flight to Lahore or Karachi and connect to the SriLankan nonstop, or fly a Gulf carrier via Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Doha or Sharjah. Keep at least three hours between separate tickets.
Booking tips that save money
- Book four to eight weeks out; fares jump around Eid, school holidays and December.
- Compare baggage allowances before choosing a cheaper connection over the nonstop.
- Pick the morning arrival if you want to sightsee on day one.
Schedules shift with the season (one Lahore flight is due to be retimed from 26 October 2026), so confirm times on the SriLankan Airlines Pakistan site before you lock hotels.
Sri Lanka Trip Cost from Pakistan: A Realistic PKR Breakdown

A Sri Lanka trip is noticeably cheaper on the ground than Singapore or the Maldives; the flight is the biggest line. The table shows approximate October 2026 ranges for a seven-day, six-night trip. They are planning numbers, not Easy Visa prices, and they assume two adults sharing a room and a car.
| Cost item (approximate, Oct 2026) | Budget, per person | Mid-range, per person | Family of 4 (2 adults, 2 children) |
|---|---|---|---|
| Return flight (KHI/LHE nonstop) | Rs 146,000 to 176,000 | Rs 175,000 to 255,000 | Rs 584,000 to 704,000 |
| Tourist ETA (official) | Rs 0 | Rs 0 | Rs 0 |
| Hotels, 6 nights (shared room) | Rs 12,500 to 25,000 | Rs 37,500 to 75,000 | Rs 75,000 to 150,000 |
| Car with driver, 5 touring days | Rs 34,500 to 52,000 | Rs 40,000 to 60,000 | Rs 104,000 to 132,000 (van) |
| Halal food | Rs 14,000 to 24,500 | Rs 28,000 to 49,000 | Rs 56,000 to 112,000 |
| Entry tickets and train (SAARC rates) | Rs 10,000 to 15,000 | Rs 15,000 to 25,000 | Rs 35,000 to 45,000 |
| SIM, tips and extras | Rs 6,000 to 12,000 | Rs 10,000 to 20,000 | Rs 15,000 to 30,000 |
| Rough all-in total | Rs 223,000 to 305,000 | Rs 305,000 to 485,000 | Rs 870,000 to 1.17 million |
How we built it: flights are SriLankan Airlines fare snapshots from 20 October 2026; hotels assume roughly US$15 to US$30 a night for clean guesthouses and US$45 to US$90 for mid-range hotels; a car with driver is commonly quoted at about US$50 to US$75 a day for a sedan and more for a family van. Exchange rates on the day were about Rs 277 to the US dollar and LKR 1,000 to roughly Rs 837.
Package or DIY?
Pakistani operators advertise Sri Lanka tour packages from about Rs 278,000 (four days) to Rs 344,000 (eight days) per person, sale prices seen on 20 October 2026. That is close to our mid-range DIY figure, so a package can be good value if flights are included. Before paying a deposit, ask for hotel names, whether airfare and entry tickets are included, and whether the promised “train ride” is actually running (see the transport section). If a quote lists a Sri Lanka visa fee for a Pakistani tourist, ask why: the tourist ETA is free under the current scheme.

A 7-Day Sri Lanka Itinerary for Pakistani Families

Seven days is the sweet spot for a 7 day trip to Sri Lanka: enough for the Cultural Triangle, the hill country and the south coast. This loop starts and ends at Colombo airport and suits a morning arrival from Karachi or Lahore.
- Day 1: Colombo. Land around midday, check in, then spend the evening on Galle Face Green, where families picnic, fly kites and buy street snacks by the sea. With energy to spare, add the Lotus Tower or the Pettah market streets and the red-and-white Jami Ul-Alfar Mosque.
- Day 2: Colombo to Dambulla and Sigiriya. Drive about four hours north. Stop at the Dambulla cave temples and stay near Sigiriya, where village hotels are quiet and good value.
- Day 3: Sigiriya, then Kandy. Climb Sigiriya Rock Fortress at opening time (7:00) to beat the heat; the climb past the frescoes and the giant Lion’s Paw takes most visitors two to three hours. Show your Pakistani passport at the counter for the SAARC ticket. Drive about three hours to Kandy and visit the Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic for the evening ceremony. Dress modestly: shorts and sleeveless tops are not allowed.
- Day 4: Kandy to Nuwara Eliya. Morning at the Peradeniya botanic gardens, then a winding three-hour drive into tea country with a tea-factory stop. Nuwara Eliya is chilly at night, so pack a sweater.
- Day 5: The scenic train to Ella. Your driver drops you at Nanu Oya station for the morning train to Ella (about two and a half hours of tea estates and tunnels) and meets you on the other side. Afternoon at Nine Arch Bridge and sunset from Little Adam’s Peak.
- Day 6: Ella to Galle. A long drive (around four and a half to five hours) down to the south coast. Walk the Galle Fort ramparts at sunset, past the lighthouse and the white Meeran Mosque inside the fort walls. Beach lovers can stay at Unawatuna or Mirissa instead.
- Day 7: Galle to the airport. The Southern Expressway gets you to Colombo airport in roughly two and a half hours. Keep a buffer for traffic and check-in.
Shorter or slower versions
For a 5 day trip to Sri Lanka, drop Sigiriya and do Colombo, Kandy, Nuwara Eliya and the Ella train, or keep it simple with Colombo and Galle. With elders or toddlers, add a night in Kandy and skip the Sigiriya climb; the museum and water gardens at the base are still worthwhile.
Getting Around: Train Status, Drivers and Road Times

Many package ads still promise the famous “Kandy to Ella train”. In October 2026 that through journey is not possible, and it is the most important thing to know before you plan.
Hill-country train status (October 2026)
Cyclone Ditwah damaged long stretches of Sri Lanka’s Upcountry railway in November 2025. Trains from Colombo now run as far as Peradeniya and Gampola again, but the section into Kandy stays closed while a damaged railway bridge is rebuilt, and two more hill sections are still under repair. The scenic section from Nanu Oya to Ella and Badulla has been running since June 2026, with a daily morning train around 9:00. That is why the itinerary above drives from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya and joins the train at Nanu Oya. Repairs are ongoing, so check the latest notices on the Sri Lanka Railways website close to your travel date.
Reserved seats go on sale 30 days ahead on the official seat reservation site and need each passenger’s passport number. The published reserved fares from Nanu Oya to Ella are LKR 2,000 in first class, LKR 1,200 in second and LKR 900 in third, plus a small online fee; foreigners pay the same fares as locals. Popular departures sell out fast; avoid resellers.
Car with driver: the family default
For most Pakistani families, a private car or van with an English-speaking driver is the easiest way to tour. The driver waits at sites and knows where to stop for halal lunches. Agree in writing what the daily price includes: fuel, expressway tolls, the driver’s room and meals, and any per-kilometre limit. Approximate drive times on our loop are four hours from Colombo to Sigiriya, three from Sigiriya to Kandy, three from Kandy to Nuwara Eliya and about five from Ella to Galle.
In Colombo and Kandy, ride-hailing apps and metered tuk-tuks cover short hops; agree the fare first if there is no meter. Intercity buses are cheap but crowded and hard work with luggage or elders.
Halal Food, Mosques and Practical Tips for Pakistani Travellers

Sri Lanka has a sizeable Muslim community, close to one in ten people, so halal food is easier to find than in many destinations. Colombo’s Pettah district and the Galle Road corridor have plenty of Muslim-run eateries serving rice and curry, biryani, kottu roti and grilled seafood. In Kandy and Galle, look near the town mosques. Hotel restaurants can usually confirm halal meat on request; check certificates yourself if your family follows a strict standard.
Prayer on the road
Jami Ul-Alfar in Pettah, completed in 1909, is both a working mosque and one of Colombo’s most photographed buildings. Galle Fort has its own mosque inside the walls, and most towns on the itinerary have one within a short drive. Tell your driver your prayer times on day one.
Money, SIM and the 30-minute clock
- Currency: the Sri Lankan rupee (LKR). Carry US dollars to exchange at the airport or licensed money changers; do not count on exchanging Pakistani rupees. Cards work in most hotels and malls, cash is needed for tuk-tuks, stalls and temple donations.
- SIM: tourist SIMs with data are sold at the airport arrivals hall; bring your passport.
- Time: Sri Lanka is 30 minutes ahead of Pakistan, which catches people out with prayer times and morning pickups.
Best time to visit
For the west and south coast and the hill country, December to March is usually driest. The south-west monsoon wets those areas from about May to September, when the east coast (Trincomalee, Arugam Bay) is at its best. October and November can be wet island-wide, so build slack into hill-country days.
